Quick answer
Choose a PowerBlock model by eliminating every family that cannot meet your exact required selectable weights, increment pattern, expansion ceiling, complete stored-system geometry, grip preference, accessory plan, retrieval path, and ownership constraints. The current U.S. comparison page presents five consumer models: Sport 24, Pro 32, Pro 50, Elite USA 90, and Pro 100 EXP. (PowerBlock comparison)
There is no universal winner. Sport 24 starts at 3 lb and stops at 24 lb in 3-lb steps. Pro 32 runs from 4 to 32 lb in 4-lb steps. Pro 50 is fixed at 5–50 lb with 2.5- and 5-lb selections. Elite USA begins as a 5–50 lb system and reaches 70 then 90 lb only through the correct Stage 2 and Stage 3 kits. Pro 100 EXP begins at 5–40 lb and reaches 60, 80, then 100 lb through model-specific stages.
The recommendation remains withheld. A model remains only a documentary candidate until the buyer binds the exact current option, selected expansion stage, pair scope, stand or floor configuration, compatibility records, purchase terms, room and retrieval route, and every material unknown. No purchase or defer is valid when identity or compatibility is ambiguous.
Define the buyer record before choosing a model
Write a dated buyer record before opening a product page:
- lightest and heaviest load required per hand;
- every selectable load that must exist, not merely the preferred increment label;
- whether both hands require equal or intentionally different loads;
- whether 24, 32, 50, 70, 90, or 100 lb is a real ceiling requirement;
- whether future expansion is required, optional, or prohibited;
- accepted handle material and diameter, without converting preference into a safety claim;
- room, package route, stored position, access zone, retrieval height, and exercise clearance;
- whether the pair stays on the floor, a compact stand, a rack stand, or another verified support;
- tolerance for loose micro weights, expansion plates, selector pins, attachments, and packaging;
- current seller, price, tax, shipping, return, warranty, and replacement-part requirements;
- exact model, generation, stage, SKU or visible identifier, and current recall status;
- every unresolved input.
A family name such as “Elite,” “Pro,” or “PowerBlock 50” is not enough to select a current model or compatible expansion kit.
Current U.S. consumer model universe
The current official U.S. comparison page exposes five consumer lanes. This is a bounded PowerBlock family universe, not a complete adjustable-dumbbell market census and not a ranking.
| Exact current lane | Source-stated range | Expansion state | Source-stated dimensions per dumbbell | Current documentary role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sport 24 | 3–24 lb; 3-lb steps | Fixed | 10 × 5.5 × 5.5 in | Lowest stated starting load in this checked family |
| Pro 32 | 4–32 lb; 4-lb steps | Fixed | 12 × 5.75 × 5.5 in | Fixed 4-lb progression |
| Pro 50 | 5–50 lb; 2.5/5-lb selections | Fixed | 13 × 7 × 7.25 in | Fixed 50-lb lane with removable micro weights |
| Elite USA 90 | 5–50 base; 70/90 with stages | Expandable | 16.25 × 6 × 6 in at full stated system | U.S.-specific staged steel-plate lane |
| Pro 100 EXP | 5–40 base; 60/80/100 with stages | Expandable | 19.21 × 7.63 × 7.72 in at full stated system | Highest current consumer ceiling in this checked family |
The official comparison table is the primary same-scope family record. Each model page remains necessary for pair scope, included parts, current option state, grip, selector, shipping, warranty, and attachment details.
Inclusion and exclusion rules
Include a candidate only when all of the following are resolved:
- exact current U.S. product name and route;
- fixed or expandable state;
- purchased stage and current maximum;
- complete selectable-weight sequence for the purchased state;
- pair scope and included handles, pins, micro weights, and plates;
- per-dumbbell dimensions tied to the correct maximum or source state;
- stand, floor, tray, and retrieval configuration;
- exact expansion and attachment compatibility;
- current seller, price, shipping, tax, return, warranty, and parts path;
- exact recall scope for used or commercial-looking units.
Exclude or hold a listing when the model family is ambiguous, a used set lacks stage or generation proof, the buyer needs a load absent from the exact sequence, the expansion kit belongs to another family, only marketplace specifications are available, or a recalled exact component has no documented completed remedy.
Affiliate availability, review score, sale price, popularity, and a desired comparison winner do not determine inclusion.
Compare fixed and expandable families
A fixed model has a declared ceiling that cannot be raised through current official expansion kits. An expandable model is not automatically purchased at its advertised maximum.
| Family type | Models in this checked set | Required record |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed | Sport 24, Pro 32, Pro 50 | Exact range and sequence; no future stage assumed |
| Expandable | Elite USA 90, Pro 100 EXP | Base set, every installed stage, current maximum, compatible next stage, stored added plates, and total purchase path |
“Expandable to 90” or “expandable to 100” does not mean a base purchase includes that ceiling. The buyer must record the exact option ordered and every stage required to reach the intended range.
Match minimum, maximum, and exact selectable weights
Do not reduce model selection to one maximum number. Check the complete sequence.
- Sport 24: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 lb.
- Pro 32: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 lb.
- Pro 50: 5 to 50 lb in the source-listed 2.5- and 5-lb pattern.
- Elite USA 90: 5–50 lb base with micro-weight selections, then additional selectable loads through 70 and 90 lb when the correct stages are installed.
- Pro 100 EXP: 5–40 lb base with its source-listed sequence, then additional loads through 60, 80, and 100 lb when the correct stages are installed.
A 4-lb increment system may miss required 5- or 10-lb loads. A 3-lb system may miss even-numbered loads. A high maximum may add length, plates, expense, and storage burden without satisfying the buyer’s lightest required load. Verify the actual sequence rather than assuming every advertised increment is available from minimum to maximum.
Compare the complete stored system, not one dumbbell
Per-dumbbell dimensions do not describe:
- both dumbbells together;
- spacing required to insert the selector pin;
- removal and storage of micro weights;
- added expansion plates;
- a compact stand or rack stand;
- attachment handles and bars;
- package boxes retained for returns;
- the route from storage to exercise position;
- clear hand access and re-racking space.
Create separate records for one dumbbell, pair, purchased stages, optional stand, stored accessories, access zone, exercise zone, and route. Do not double one published axis and call the result a verified pair footprint.
Sport 24: low-range fixed path
The current Sport 24 page states a 3–24 lb range, 3-lb steps, 10 × 5.5 × 5.5 in per dumbbell, a 32 mm TPR grip, two selector pins, two 1.5-lb handles, three color choices, pair scope, and a five-year residential limited warranty. The checked price was $219. (Sport 24)
This lane remains only for buyers whose real loads match the eight selectable values. It is eliminated when a required load exceeds 24 lb or when the buyer requires a weight absent from the 3-lb sequence. Marketing references to rehabilitation, comfort, compactness, or durability are not retained as FitFootprint conclusions.
Pro 32: four-pound-step fixed path
The current Pro 32 page states 4–32 lb in 4-lb steps, dimensions of 12 × 5.75 × 5.5 in, a 32 mm TPR grip, pair scope, SKU 505-00120-01, and a checked price of $379. The page also states that Pro 32 is not compatible with Pro Series attachments. (Pro 32)
The current U.S. navigation emphasizes Pro 100 EXP, Elite USA 90, Pro 50, and Sport 24 while the comparison page and direct product page still expose Pro 32. Treat this as a catalog-navigation inconsistency, not proof that Pro 32 is discontinued or unavailable. Purchase-day status must be rechecked.
Pro 50: fixed fifty-pound micro-load path
The current Pro 50 page states a 5–50 lb fixed range, dimensions of 13 × 7 × 7.25 in, a 38 mm TPR grip, pair scope, two selector pins, and two 2.5-lb micro weights inside each handle. It states that no base stand is required for weight changes and lists Pro Series attachments. The checked price was $549. (Pro 50)
“No base stand required” removes one documented dependency; it does not prove that floor-level retrieval, pin access, or the complete stored arrangement works in the buyer’s room. Attachment compatibility must be checked against the exact Pro Series product, not inferred from the word “Pro.”
Elite USA 90: staged fifty-to-ninety-pound path
The current Elite USA page presents a 5–50 lb base set with optional Stage 2 and Stage 3 expansion to 70 and 90 lb, a 32 mm knurled stainless-steel grip, welded steel plates, micro weights, and full-system dimensions of 16.25 × 6 × 6 in per dumbbell. The checked 90-lb option displayed $867. (Elite USA 90)
Stage 2 currently costs $199 and works only with the Elite USA Stage 1 set. Stage 3 currently costs $199, requires Stage 2, and is not compatible with Elite EXP. (Elite USA Stage 2) (Elite USA Stage 3)
A used listing that says only “Elite” is unresolved. Elite USA, Elite EXP, and pre-2012 Elite USA are separate compatibility records even when a support page lists more than one historical compatible family.
Pro 100 EXP: staged forty-to-one-hundred-pound path
The current Pro 100 EXP page presents grip options, a 5–40 lb base, staged 60/80/100 lb options, a 38 mm grip record, micro weights, pair scope, and full-system dimensions of 19.21 × 7.63 × 7.72 in per dumbbell. The checked 100-lb option displayed $1,196 and the page showed a starting price of $539. (Pro 100 EXP)
The current Stage 2 kit costs $219 and works only with a 40-lb Pro 100 EXP base. Stage 4 costs $219 and requires the earlier stages; both pages explicitly exclude other PowerBlock families. (Pro 100 Stage 2) (Pro 100 Stage 4)
The consumer Pro 100 EXP is not the recalled Commercial Pro 100 configuration. Similar names and a shared 100-lb ceiling do not transfer commercial recall status or prove equivalent handles, plates, warranty, or instructions.
Expansion kits are model and stage specific
Lock these rules from the Elite USA Stage 2, Elite USA Stage 3, Pro 100 EXP Stage 2, and Pro 100 EXP Stage 4 records before crediting future expansion:
Elite USA Stage 2 -> Elite USA Stage 1 only
Elite USA Stage 3 -> Elite USA with Stage 2 installed
Elite USA kits != Elite EXP kits
Pro 100 Stage 2 -> Pro 100 EXP 40-lb base only
Pro 100 Stage 4 -> Pro 100 EXP with earlier stages installed
Pro 100 kits != Pro EXP, Pro 50, Elite, Sport, or Commercial kits
Each additional stage changes purchase cost, shipped boxes, stored plate count, maximum dimension state, return exposure, and replacement-part dependency. Expansion is a compatibility chain, not a generic feature.
Attachments and selector pins are model specific
The current Sport 24, Pro 32, Pro 50, Elite USA 90, and Pro 100 EXP pages show that selector pins and attachment paths are model-specific. Therefore:
- never substitute a pin because its color or shape looks similar;
- never attach a Pro 100 bar to Pro 32 or Pro 50 without exact support;
- never treat Elite USA and Elite EXP attachments as interchangeable;
- never assume a current attachment supports an older or discontinued generation;
- record the added attachment dimensions, selected load range, stand, storage, and exercise clearance separately.
An attachment ecosystem can be useful only after the exact base model and compatibility record are locked.
Current price and purchase-term snapshot
The following were current direct-site display values checked on July 26, 2026. They are volatile listing inputs, not quotes or value conclusions.
| Current lane | Checked display | Treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Sport 24 | $219 | Pair listing snapshot |
| Pro 32 | $379 | Pair listing snapshot; navigation inconsistency remains |
| Pro 50 | $549 | Pair listing snapshot |
| Elite USA 90 | $867 | 90-lb option snapshot; base and stages must be itemized |
| Pro 100 EXP | $1,196 | 100-lb option snapshot; page also states “from $539” |
PowerBlock’s current U.S. terms say posted prices can change, tax is added at checkout, returns require an RMA within the stated window, customer-paid return shipping, original condition and materials, suitable packaging, and a 20% processing/restocking fee. Orders generally ship within 2–4 business days, subject to backorders or exceptions. (Terms of sale)
Do not turn free-shipping language into a complete delivered total. Tax, address, stage choice, stand, attachments, return freight, packaging, and future expansion remain separate.
Stand and retrieval configuration
The complete storage system can be larger than the dumbbell pair.
- Small Compact Stand: 16 × 14 × 25 in, checked at $99, stated for Sport 24, Pro 32, and Pro 50. (Small Compact Stand)
- Large Compact Stand: 18 × 17 × 26 in, checked at $109, supports listed models up to 90 lb and explicitly excludes Pro 100 EXP. (Large Compact Stand)
- Home Rack Stand: 19 × 21 × 29 in, checked at $279, stated to support two dumbbells up to 100 lb and lists the five current families. (Home Rack Stand)
A stand changes footprint, retrieval height, loaded mass, hand access, assembly, and route. Manufacturer language about ergonomic height or reducing strain is not an independent fit, accessibility, or safety conclusion.
Recall and used-unit identity gate
The October 24, 2024 CPSC recall applies to the Commercial Pro 100 set sold with affected 5-lb grip handles. Plates above 55 lb could dislodge from those handles. CPSC instructed consumers to stop using the recalled handles and obtain replacements. Only the affected 5-lb handles in that commercial set are within the recall. (CPSC Commercial Pro 100 recall)
Do not transfer that recall to current consumer Pro 100 EXP, Elite USA 90, Pro 50, Pro 32, or Sport 24. Do not use absence from that recall as safety certification. A used listing that could be Commercial Pro 100 must bind the exact handles and remedy status before any purchase or use decision.
Scenario: buyer needs three to twenty-four pounds
required_values = 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24
maximum_required = 24
future_expansion = not required
Sport 24 survives the documentary range gate. Pro 32 fails the exact 3-lb starting and sequence requirement. Pro 50, Elite USA, and Pro 100 start at 5 lb and fail the 3-lb requirement. The result is eligible_with_named_conditions, not a recommendation: room, retrieval, exact current unit, price, return, and direct-use evidence remain unresolved.
Scenario: buyer needs four-pound progression to thirty-two
required_values = 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32
attachments = not required
Pro 32 survives the range and sequence gate. Sport 24 fails the ceiling. Pro 50, Elite USA, and Pro 100 do not expose that exact 4-lb sequence. Purchase-day availability, stand choice, direct-use evidence, and current support still remain conditions.
Scenario: buyer needs fifty pounds and two-and-a-half-pound steps
required_max = 50
required_micro_progression = selected 2.5-lb values
future_expansion = prohibited
Pro 50 is the simplest fixed documentary survivor. Elite USA 50 can also expose micro-weight selections, and Pro 100 EXP can reach 50 only after expansion beyond its 40-lb base. The buyer must compare the exact required sequence, current option, dimensions, stages, grip, price, and stored parts. A fixed system may reduce expansion dependencies, but that is not proof of better adjustment, durability, or value.
Scenario: buyer needs ninety pounds
Elite USA 90 and Pro 100 EXP with the required stages remain documentary survivors. Sport 24, Pro 32, and Pro 50 fail the stated maximum. The buyer must compare exact selectable weights, full-stage dimensions, grip, expansion chain, stand compatibility, current total purchase path, return exposure, and attachment needs. Neither can be declared a winner without the buyer record and evidence parity.
Scenario: buyer needs one hundred pounds
Only Pro 100 EXP reaches a current consumer source-stated 100-lb ceiling in this five-model universe. This yields eligible_with_named_conditions, not a recommendation. The result still depends on all stages, full dimensions, retrieval and exercise clearance, exact stand, complete purchase cost, and direct evidence for the intended workflow.
Scenario: used Elite listing without an exact family
listing = PowerBlock Elite adjustable dumbbells
country = United States
family_label = missing
installed_stage = unknown
kit_identity = unknown
Result: no_purchase_or_defer. The Elite USA Stage 2 and Stage 3 records explicitly reject Elite EXP compatibility. Appearance, color rails, or a claimed maximum cannot replace exact family and stage evidence.
When no model survives
Use no_purchase_or_defer when:
- no current model contains every required load;
- required minimum is below the family’s current minimum;
- required maximum exceeds the exact purchased stage;
- an expansion or attachment identity is ambiguous;
- room, route, stand, retrieval, or exercise clearance is unresolved;
- used-unit recall or remedy status is unresolved;
- current price, return exposure, or replacement-part dependency exceeds the buyer’s tolerance;
- the buyer requires independent durability, comfort, adjustment-reliability, or safety evidence that does not exist.
A fixed dumbbell set, cable system, or another strength format may be the correct category exit, but those alternatives require their own current evidence.
Material conflicts and unknowns
- Pro 32 is present on the current comparison and direct product pages but omitted from the primary current U.S. navigation list.
- The current Pro 32 product page exposes both residential and commercial warranty wording; exact purchase/use scope must be bound.
- Elite USA and Elite EXP are different families despite similar names and ranges.
- Pro 100 EXP and discontinued Pro EXP use different expansion kits.
- Per-dumbbell dimensions do not resolve pair, stand, access, exercise, or package geometry.
- Direct current manuals for every exact model and stage were not fully bound in this research pass.
- Actual selectable weight can vary slightly due to manufacturing tolerances stated by PowerBlock.
- Price, stock, tax, shipping, return, warranty, parts, and support outcomes can change.
- No current product was physically inspected or tested.
Unknown remains unknown; it is not a pass, zero cost, compatibility approval, or safety conclusion.
Recommendation boundary
This page can route a buyer to a documentary model candidate. It cannot recommend a model until the exact buyer requirements, model/stage identity, current source set, dimensions, compatibility, ownership terms, room and retrieval plan, and relevant direct evidence are complete.
Do not call any model best, safest, most durable, easiest, most comfortable, most compact in practice, or best value from these records. Current manufacturer “most compact” or “durable” language is marketing and is not adopted as an independent conclusion.
Next step
Save one exact candidate record containing model, purchased stage, complete selectable weights, per-dumbbell dimensions, pair and stand configuration, selector and micro-weight parts, expansion and attachment compatibility, current price and policy date, used-unit identity and recall result, room and retrieval route, unknowns, and decision state.
Use the live adjustable-dumbbell buying guide for category context, the total-cost method for transaction-record structure, and the live adjustable dumbbell total-cost analysis for pair, stand, delivery, warranty, return, service, storage, and replacement-risk fields. Use the current BowFlex 552 analysis as a separate dossier. None of these pages establishes a PowerBlock result; an exact comparison requires evidence parity and the relevant live prerequisites. For the exact two-product comparison, see BowFlex Results Series 552 vs PowerBlock Pro 50. This is descriptive comparison context; it does not establish fit, safety, value, or a recommendation.
Methodology
FitFootprint reviewed current official U.S. PowerBlock comparison, product, expansion, stand, policy, and recall sources on July 26, 2026. The candidate universe was locked before scenario routing. The September 10, 2026 refresh observed the comparison route; direct product, kit, stand, policy, and recall routes were transport-limited by Cloudflare/HTTP 403. That limitation is not evidence of safety, no warning, stock, compatibility, or availability. Exact source-state values were preserved; regional Elite EXP records were not imported into the U.S. Elite USA lane. Marketing claims, reviews, affiliate availability, marketplace facts, and direct-use conclusions were excluded.
The workflow applies hard requirements first, preserves conflicts and unknowns, and permits no purchase or defer. It is not a product test, safety assessment, or recommendation.
